Center Let Freedom Swing: A Celebration
of America, Winter 2009
Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Rockefeller
Foundation presented "A
Celebration Of America" in
the Kennedy Center's Eisenhower Theater
on January 19th, 2009. The event was
hosted by Courtney B. Vance and Angela
Bassett on the occasion of the Presidential
Inauguration and Martin Luther King,
Jr. Day. The concert included performances
by Bela Fleck, Cassandra Wilson, Dave
Brubeck, Dianne Reeves, Freddy Cole,
Jessye Norman, Paquito D'Rivera, Roy
Haynes, and Derek Trucks. In between
performances, the audience watched video
of interchanges between Wynton Marsalis
and Justice Sandra Day O'Connor as they
spoke of the values of civil society
and the principles of democracy that
jazz embodies. GES provided a large array
of services for this event including,
rider fulfillment, venue negotiation,
event and production staff, crew management,
lighting, projection and sound design
services, equipment systems, and on site
technical direction for this historic
concert.
